Instructions for helpers

WHAT DAY AND WHAT TIME?

The Big Cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 24 from 9:00 – 15:00 simultaneously all over Latvia!

WHERE TO CLEAN UP?

Ask your local Cleanup Coordinator at the nearest municipality or find out on the website www.talkas.lv! There you can easily see all the officially registered cleanup sites organised by the most active municipalities, educational institutions, organisations, companies, as well as volunteer enthusiasts. Choose the nearest or most interesting cleanup and join it on April 24! Each registered cleanup site has its own Responsible Person. Record his/her phone number so you can get in touch if you need to!

WHERE TO GET THE WASTE BAGS?

This year supporters will be able to receive The Big Cleanup waste bags free only on April 24 at every cleanup site registered on www.talkas.lv throughout Latvia. Waste collection is made only in these bags! Additional information about the bags is available from the Coordinator of the specific parish!

WHERE TO LEAVE THE FILLED BAGS?

The relevant municipality is responsible for the collection and removal of the Big Cleanup waste bags. Leave your filled bags ONLY at the registered cleanup site and inform the Cleanup Responsible Person about their location. In case of doubt, call your municipal Cleanup Coordinator.

WHAT TO DO WITH SUSPICIOUS WASTE AND DEAD ANIMALS?

If you see used injection syringes, bottles with chemical or undetectable solutions, batteries or other hazardous waste when cleaning, do not touch them! The Cleanup Responsible Person will be informed about the location of such items! But if a dead animal comes up while working in nature or in the city territory – do not touch it, but report it to the relevant municipality. On the other hand, if you see more than two injured or dead animals, report them to the emergency service by calling 112.

HOW TO DRESS?

Be sure to wear work gloves when cleaning! We recommend wearing long pants and a shirt or jacket with long sleeves. Wear closed shoes with a hard enough, thick sole so that no unnoticed glass or sharp object injures your feet. Put a hat or scarf on your head. Such clothing will also protect you from tick bites!

WHAT TO BRING ALONG?

When going to a cleanup site, be sure to bring along work gloves, your family members, friends, relatives, work colleagues, neighbours and most importantly – the joy of work!

SEE YOU ON April 24!

P.S. In the Big Cleanup, we invite you not only to collect waste, but also to do other good deeds – plant trees, create wonderful flower beds, improve the yards of houses, make bird cages, restore fences, benches, bridges… Let’s live beautifully! Bring joy to yourself and others! Latvia WILL BE green!
