THE BIG CLEANUP GAINS CREDENCE FOR THE WORLD’S HIGHEST ACTIVITY OF CLEANERS IN THE 2020 WORLD CLEANUP
The organisers of the Big Cleanup have just received a message and an award from the World Cleanup Movement “Let`s do it!” that Latvia has been recognised as the country with “the highest percentage of volunteers per capita at World Cleanup Day 2020”. As previously reported, on September 19 last year, World Cleanup Day (WCD), a 24-hour clean-up marathon, took place in 158 countries around the world trees, within which the Big Cleanup movement has traditionally been involved both in improvement works and in the planting of the already usual “Trees of Happiness” and promotion of the green lifestyle. The world’s first Happiness Tree Park was also opened in Valdemārpils in the autumn of 2020.
In Latvia, annual spring clean-ups with cleaning works have been organized for 13 years, therefore in the autumn, within the framework of the World Cleanup, Latvian residents and diaspora representatives are invited to get involved in both improvement works and planting the Trees of Happiness. Despite the restrictions created by Covid-19, the people of Latvia were also active helpers last year and proved that it is important to us which country we will leave for future generations. The efforts, positive mood and perseverance of our citizens are now also recognised internationally.
